As if it was today… eighteen years ago Leganés tied against Bernd Schuster’s Xerez at Chapín (3-3). Oscar’s goal to tie up the match came on injury time and after been playing with 10 players because of Sívori’s expulsion.

Carlos Sánchez Aviar’s team was playing on Segunda División and three points away from relegation zone with just 8 matches remaining on the season. The team was about to play with Xerez: a team that was fighting for the league´s first position with Atlético de Madrid.

The pepineros’ initial squad was: Raúl Arribas, Julián Ronda, Fede Bahón, Clotet, Lambea, Óscar, Carcedo, Gámiz, Miguel Ángel, Sívori and Iván Pérez. Darmon, Encinas and Arnal played on the second half. Sívori was the first to score in the match, after that the locals managed to tie it but a couple of minutes before the end of the first half Miguel Angel scored a penalty kick to set the 1-2.

Sívori´s expulsion made thing hard for the pepineros and Xerez cameback in the match with two more goals (3-2). When everything seemed to be lost, a goal by Óscar on injury time allowed the pepineros to save a point and continue their way to their objective of staying at Segunda División.
