Asier Garitano: "Morale's improved and it's a good point from which we can grow and compete for more"

C.D. Leganés coach, Asier Garitano, appeared before a press conference after the game at the Ipurua finished all square at 1-1 between S.D. Eibar and Leganés in the fourth LaLigaSmartBank matchday.

Looking back on the game which ended in a point for each side, Asier said: "Winning this point was good for us considering how the match went. In the second half Eibar was far better than us, but we fought and withstood them, and to get by with a point at this stadium and against this opponent is a good thing. We've improved the mood with respect to previous encounters and bit by bit we've got better. Eibar, Valladolid, Huesca... are all only a point ahead of us at the minute, and we intend to stay as close as possible to them. We missed out on a good start to the season and this draw is a good step forward".

Garitano went on to say "there were phases in which we dominated, but we were still lacking in the final third. We have a lot of new arrivals who are settling in and I feel very positive about that. Lining up against us was a team that acheives a lot, a clear promotion candidate and so for us to have come away with a draw is a good point from which we can grow and compete for more".

"We will have to keep working more, but each time we're getting a bit better"

Asked about Jon Bautista, who made his debut for the team, Garitano spoke his praises: "Jon's strengths are these: his vision and character fit right into Leganés. We'll have to integrate him further into the dynamics here, but he has the conviction and intensity to know that he can do a lot of damage".

Lastly, on the club's start to the league Asier believes they are only improving: "I'm certain that this team will continue to improve in a lot of aspects of the game and that's where we're at. We've not been able to win in these first four games, we've deserved more in places but it is what it is. We will have to keep working more, but each time we're getting a bit better, and we take comfort in the fact things will improve, the squad will get stronger and we just hope that we have the kind of season that keeps us competitive with those teams".
