C.D. Leganés are unsuccessful against C.D. Tenerife (1-2)

C.D. Leganés were unable to increase their points against C.D. Tenerife in what was their 12th LaLiga SmartBank game of the season, played at the Estadio Municipal Butarque (1-2). Sergio González was the lone pepinero goalscorer, but Elady’s brace secured the win for the visitors against a Leganés team that finished the game with nine men.

Asier Garitano started with the same eleven that began the game against Alcorcón last time out, with the sole change being the addition of Rubén Pardo to the midfield in place of an injured Doukouré. The first dangerous approach from the pepineros came just after the quarter of an hour mark, with Palencia's cross unfortunately not finding a finisher.

Elady puts Tenerife ahead in the first half

However, in their first advance down the pitch, Tenerife took the lead: an inside pass reaching Elady, who scored against Iván Villar in the 19’. Leganés responded with a shot from Gaku from the edge of the area in the 22’ that went just over. In the 25’, Asier Garitano was forced to make his first change, bringing on Randjelovic in place of Bruno, who was enduring fitness issues, and switching to a back four.

Leganés tried to level the match and had a good chance from Rubén Pardo, whose free kick went narrowly wide. Right before the break, Fede Vico also tried his luck, but his low left-footed shot was handled comfortably by Juan Soriano. The visitors went in at the break with a slender lead.

Sergio González equalises off a set-piece

Leganés started the second half with much greater intensity, with Randjelovic making two dangerous runs down the right flank despite no end product. In the 52’, Javi Hernández finished off strong drive by Fede Vico, but his left-footed shot was too high for the frame. On the hour mark, Asier Garitano made a double substitution, bringing on Eraso and Juan Muñoz for Gaku and Fede Vico.

It was only in the 68’ that the equaliser finally came for the pepineros: Juan Muñoz took a free-kick from the left flank and Sergio González was first to get his head on the floating ball to head it home at the far post. The goal had to be validated by the VAR after the assistant referee De la Fuente Ramos had initially flagged offside. It was Sergio's first goal of the season.

Elady doubled his account against a nine-man Leganés side

Leganés pressed in search of a comeback and, in the 81', Elady scored again to restore Tenerife's advantage. The pepineros substituted on Naim in the final ten minutes, pressing hard to level the game a second time, but they were forced to finish the game with only nine men after Bárcenas left the field injured and Rubén Pardo received a straight red card seven minutes into injury time.

Leganés remain with 10 points in the table and their next match will be on Friday 29th October (21:00 CEST) against U.D. Almería.
