C.D. Leganés reinforces the defense with Chidozie Awaziem

C.D. Leganés and the F.C. Porto reached an agreement for the one-season-loan of the 22-year-old Nigerian international defender Chidozie Collins Awaziem. The African footballer, who played with his team the last African Cup, will be part of the cucumber squad in the 2019/20 season.

Awaziem is a right-footed defender that can adapt to the full-back position. Strong and fast, with a good aerial game and ball movement. He was recruited by Porto in the 2014/15 season from the El-Kanemi Warriors Academy in Nigeria. He debuted with the first Portuguese team in January 2016, playing thirteen official matches and scoring a goal.

In the following campaign he returned to the Porto Academy, playing 35 games, being loaned in the 2017/18 season to F.C. Nantes of the French Ligue 1, where he participated in 23 matches scoring one goal. Back last season in Do Dragao Stadium, Awaziem debuted in the Champions League in the group stage against Galatasaray, being loaned in the winter market to Caykur Rizespor of the Turkish Super League, with which he played the sixteen games he was available.

Awaziem has already been, despite his youth, eleven times international with Nigeria. He debuted in 2017 with the national team and started in six games of the last Africa Cup held in Egypt, losing only the clash for third and fourth place by penalty and achieving bronze in the tournament.

The defender, who will wear the number 12, will be immediately incorporated into training under the orders of Mauricio Pellegrino and will be presented soon.
