C.D Leganés wins against R.C.D Espanyol and is now at promotion positions in the table

C.D Leganés won against R.C.D Espanyol (2-0) at Butarque for the fourth matchday of LaLiga SmartBank. Borja Bastón and José Arnaiz scored the goals for the pepineros, their third consecutive.

José Luis Martí made two changes after the last match against Málaga: Rubén Pérez returned to the midfield replacing Luis Perea, and Borja Bastón replaced the Swiss Kevin Bua.

Leganés started the match decided to go for the win and it had the first chance through Sabin Merino. Espanyol responded with a header by Puado that did not find goal. Arnaiz tried his chances but Diego López managed to stop it.

Embarba had the best chance for the visitors with a free kick that went directly to the crossbar. Leganés continued trying with a good attack by Arnaiz in the 37’ but Palencia could not finish it. Arnaiz tries again two minutes later but Diego López stopped it again.

The first goal of the match arrived on the 42: C.D Leganés stopped a ball after a good pressing in the midfield that helped Rubén Pardo to assist Borja Bastón who scored with his left foot. His third goal of the season. The visitors saw how Miguelón was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. 1-o after the first half.

José Arnaiz scored the second goal at the beginning of the second half

C.D Leganés increased their lead at the beginning of the second half. José Arnaiz took the ball in the left wing, put out some rivals and finished it with class against Diego López’s goal. José Luis Martí made his first substitution after the first hour of the match, Gaku Shibasaki replaced Rubén Pérez.

Leganés was close to score the third one in the 61’ through Borja Bastón who kicked the ball but Diego López stopped it. The pepineros remained solid and Luis Perea and Kevin Bua replaced José Arnaiz and Sabin merino in the 70th minute. The white and blues made their last substitutions and sent Miguel and Jonathan Silva to replace Pardo and Bastón. The Argentinean returned to action.

C.D Leganés controlled the clash until the end and is now second in the league with 28 points, just one away from the first position. The next match will be against S.D Ponferradina at El Toralín.
