Iván Villar: "I'm excited to do something big here"

This Monday goalkeeper Iván Villar had his presentation as a new signing for C.D. Leganés. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, arriving from R.C. Celta, was very keen to finally join the squad and hopes that a great season lies ahead for him and the rest of the team.

The shotstopper stated "I'm very happy to be here, I'm getting to know everyone and I like everything I've seen here. We have to work to make this a great year for everyone. Once I made the decision to leave Celta, Leganés caught my attention right away and for that reason I decided to come". On his fellow netminder, he said "Riesgo is an excellent keeper and it will be the boss who makes the decisions each week. Me, I'm going to give my best in training but the decision is left to him".

"I'm a young keeper, but with plenty of professional experience"

When asked about his own abilities, Iván admitted "I'm a young keeper, but with plenty of professional experience and I'm excited to do something big here. All of us need to stay sharp because you can go from a starter to the bench very quickly".

Discussing his new goalkeeping coach, fellow Galician Queco Piña, Villar explained "I didn't know Piña personally, but since I've began working with him I've realised his dedication and that he can equip me with the tools to keep developing as a player. The whole community is fundamental to the campaign and we hope it can make it a great one."
