A first half without goals or great occasions

The match started even with both teams trying to get the ball possession. An organized Leganés managed to close their rivals’ spaces. The first occasion arrived on the 21’ after a Header by Bernardo that Cuéllar stopped. The next play featured a dangerous cross by Kevin Rodrigues that Siovas was close to receive.

Leganés continued trying to get to Espanyol’s area through Rosales and Kevin Rodrigues on the wings. The first half ended after a wide header by Wu Lei.

The match restarted and the pepineros scored on the 53’ after a perfect crossed pass by Rubén Pérez that assisted Jonathan Silva who shot the ball into the net. 0-1.

Espanyol tried to react through a free kick by De Tomás that Cuéllar stopped. Assalé got to replace Guerrero on the pitch. The pepineros claimed a penalty kick after Siovas was taken down on the area but neither the referee nor the VAR called it.

A team organized in the back worked to get the three points

On the 65’ the youth squad player Javier Avilés replaced Rosales after the Venezuelan got injured. Avilés himself would try to reach Diego López’s goal from outside on the 73’ but the keeper stopped if without difficulties.

The last substitutions for Leganés arrived on the 81’ when Awaziem and Recio replaced Aitor Ruibal and Amadou. The pepineros were struggling to keep their lead. On the 87’ Calleri was sent off after two yellow cards. De Tomás had the best chance for the locals on the 89’ but his shot went up.

Despite of the long added time, Leganés managed to keep their lead until the final and reaches 28 points on the league. The pepineros’ next match will be on Thursday (19:30h) against S.D Eibar at Ipurua.
