Recio: “Understanding what we are playing for is the best motivation for us”

C.D Leganés’ midfielder José Recio answered the questions sent by the media after this Tuesday’s training session at I.D Butarque. The malagueño analyzed the return to training and the aspects related to the restart of the competition.

Recio started referring to the competition return at Germany and the first Bundesliga matchday: “It is different. I have seen the matches and it is not the same to be playing without fans and wit all the protocols and new things that have been done. I am excited about the possibility to apply those methods here”.

About celebrating without hugging the teammates: “I think that it is not very logical because you share dressing rooms with your teammates, have contact on the corners… at the end I think that things are done to show that the measures are being applying seriously” remarked.

When asked about playing without fans, Recio declared: “It will affect us all, we should start to be more aware of ourselves (laughs). When there are fans on the pitch you barely hear yourself and now everything will be heard and all of us, players, coaches, referees will live a different experience”.

“We must prepare ourselves to fight for the survival”

About the first days of training: “We must be concerned about we can do right now which is training and getting ready taking in account that the competition is going to be back. We must prepare ourselves to try to save the team from relegation on the eleven remaining matchdays”.

“Training together, pressing ourselves, working on possession, crosses, shoots… those are things that help us. Let’s hope we can continue with the phase-advancing process and thus training sessions will become normal during competition”.

“We have a team ready to face these weeks”

Recio is OK to play with every 3 days: “We have a team ready to face the five weeks proposed and understand the injury risk. The two-month lockdown didn’t help. We are trying to get ready in the best possible way, there is no team that will restart competing on their physical 100% but we all will be equal on that matter”, analized.

The midfielder is positive about having five substitutions per match: “The heat, particularly in Madrid, by the end of June and July will be high. We should try to play on times when the heat is not that intense, even though we normally start the league on august. It is something we need to get used to and prepare ourselves to be ready”.

The midfielder is not in favor of the staying overnight at camps with the team: “I have stayed two months of lockdown with my wife and children and I think I should remain with them when the competition restarts. I have a better rest when I’m home and that helps to face trainings and matches on a better way. I think that most of the football players may agree with me”

“We want to survive on first division, it doesn’t matter if we reach it on the first, second or any other matchday”

“I would like to know a date for the restart of the competition”, remarked. “I understand that they are waiting for the evolution of everything these days, but it would be great to know a day in order to focus around it and mentally getting ready for the rest of the season”.

Recio is not worried about the pressure of leaving the relegation zone as soon as possible: “I just want to be out of relegation zone by the time the season is over. We are assuming that if the competition restarts it should have all the remaining matches. We know the importance of the first matches, we should be mentally strong, first match against Valladolid will be important. We must go match by match and secure the survival, it doesn’t matter if we reach it on the first, second or any other matchday”.

“We must be mentally aware that we are playing the 28th matchday of the season and our chances are at stake so we must motivate ourselves. We have with us a manager that is a motivator and will be sure that we put our best to save from relegation”, finalized.
