27 years since Leganés first promotion to professional football

On June 27th, 1993 C.D Leganés was promoted to professional football for the first time. The pepineros won against Elche (3-0) at Luis Rodríguez de Miguel on the last promotion match and reached the historic promotion to Segunda División, the first of the team in 65 years of history by then.

Luis Ángel Duque’s team had ended as their Segunda División 'B'’s group champion and had to face the promotion play offs in which was about to face Xerez, Palencia and Elche. On the last season the pepineros received the franjiverdes knowing that a win would allow them to get promoted.

The Municipal was full and Leganés initial squad was: Aguilera, David, Mesas, Dorado, Barba, Chuso, May, Vivar Dorado, Peces, Miguel Ángel and Antonio. Fernando and Barcia also played on the match.

Goals arrived on the second half. Antonio scored on the 51’ and increased the lead on the 85’, Peces scored the last goal on the 87’ for the final 3-0. It was total happiness for the fans: Leganés was going to be part for the first time of professional football.
