A penalty in the 85th after consulting with the VAR left C.D Leganés without points at Lugo (2-1)

C.D Leganés could not get any points after their visit to C.D Lugo (2-1). It was a match that was decided with a penalty kick called by the referee Ocón Arraíz after consulting with the VAR. Sabin Merino scored for the pepineros.

José Luis Martí lined up a team with five changes compared to the team that played against U.D Las Palmas: Diego Conde replaced Cuéllar, Javi Rubio replaced Jonathan Silva (both Conde and Javi Rubio made their official debut with the first team and on LaLiga SmartBank), Avilés, Shibasaki and Juan Muñoz replaced Róber Ibáñez, Dani Ojeda and Eraso.

The first minutes did not have many chances. The pepineros tried to control the ball from the back and connect with the forwards but the locals’ good pressing made things difficult for the pepineros’ strikers.

Sabin Merino scored the first goal

Leganés took the lead of the match. Gaku Shibasaki assisted Sabin Merino who controlled the ball and beat Cantero with a left-footed shoot. Great goal to start winning the match after VAR confirming there was not offside from the striker.

C.D Leganés had to make the first substitution after the first 30 minutes. Shibasaki had some physical difficulties and was replaced by Eraso. The pepineros continued looking to increase their lead through Avilés who was close to score the second. It was 0-1 after the first half.

Rodríguez tied the match for Lugo

No substitutions for Leganés after half-time. It was Javi Rubio the one that had the first occasion in the 50th but the locals’ goalkeeper stopped it. C.D Lugo had a clear option later through Rodríguez but Sergio González stopped it with a header.

José Luis Martí made a double substitution in the 58th: Santos and Borja Bastón replaced Juan Muñoz and Sabin Merino. Avilés was close to score the 0-2 on the 60’ but Cantero saved the locals again.

C.D Lugo tied the match in the 64’ through Rodríguez after Gerard Valentín ran on the right wing and assisted the locals’ forward. The locals had another chance on the 69’ but the ball went wide.

Penatly kick after consulting with the VAR

Avilés had another chance in the 73’ with a shoot from the outside that went close to the crossbar. He was later substituted after having some cramps, Dani Ojeda replaced him.

Ocón Arraíz called a penalty kick after consulting with the VAR in the 85th minute of the match. It was because of a play in which Gerard was supposedly taken down two minutes before. Manu Barrerio scored the penalty kick and defined the 2-1.

Leganés tried a couple times but the shoots were not successful. It is the first loss of the season for the pepineros. They will receive F.C Cartagena next Sunday for the third matchday (20:30h).
