Leganés and 28-year-old forward Borja González Tomás “Borja Bastón” have come to an agreement for the forward to join the pepineros on the 2020/21 season. The forward from Madrid has signed for a season with an option for another two in case the team gets promoted to LaLiga Santander by the end of the season.

He was formed on Atlético de Madrid’s academy and was part of the youth teams until making his debut with the first team under Quique Sánchez Flores commands on the last matchday of the 2009/10 season. However, suffered a knee injury that match that prevent him to have continuity with the team later.

Successful debut in first division with S.D Eibar

Once he recovered, he was loaned on four consecutive seasons to Second Division teams: Real Murcia, S.D. Huesca, R.C. Deportivo de La Coruña (team where he achieved the first division promotion) and Real Zaragoza. On all those teams he managed to improve his goal scoring numbers.

His 22 goals on the 2014/15 season took him to be loaned to S.D Eibar for the 2015/16. His first complete season in first division could not be more successful with 19 goals and being awarded as the second top scorer of the league.

Premier league jump

His great year took him to play at the premier league for Swansea City, playing his first 20 games on the UK. He returned to Spain on a loan to play for Málaga for the 2017/18 and Deportivo Alavés for the 2018/19. He returned to Swansea to play the last season in the Championship on the next season and was loaned again to Aston Villa where he managed to have some more minutes at the premier league again.

Borja has been an international for Spain on the U-17 and U-19 categories and has been awarded with the Golden Boot on the 2009 U-17 Nigeria World Cup. He also won with Spain the 2011 U-19 Rumania European Cup. He is a central forward with great physical conditions and area presence. The details about his presentation will be known shortly.
