C.D. Leganés' attack completed with the arrival of Guido Carrillo

C.D. Leganés and Southampton F.C. reached an agreement for a new one season loan of the 28-year-old Argentine forward, Guido Marcelo Carrillo. The Argentine striker will defend the cucumber shirt once again after having done it last season, scoring six goals in thirty-three matches.

Carrillo was formed in the academy of Estudiantes de La Plata, debuting with the first team being only twenty years old. He scored his first professional goal against Independiente, increasing his presence on the team with Mauricio Pellegrino on the bench in the 2012/13 season. The next was his breakthrough, scoring fourteen goals between League and Copa Sudamericana, while in the following, his last in Argentina, exceeded the previous figure reaching sixteen goals, seven of them in Copa Libertadores.

In July 2015 he made the leap to Europe being transferred to Monaco. He made his debut with the team for the Champions League’s qualifier against the Swiss side Young Boys, scoring a goal shortly after jumping to the pitch. With coach Leonardo Jardim he participated in forty official matches in his first campaign in France, where he scored five goals and gave three assists, contributing to the classification of Monaco for the Champions League.

During his second campaign Carrillo had to share the attack with men like Falcao or Mbappé, causing his minutes to decrease but not his scoring figure, which reached eight goals in addition to five assists. A historic season for Monaco, winning the League and reaching semifinals of the Champions League, where Carrillo could not help in the final leg due to an injury in February with which he practically said goodbye to the season.

In the 2017/18 campaign, Carrillo scored eight goals in 24 games in Monaco until, in January, he was transferred to Southampton, trained by Mauricio Pellegrino, his former Estudiantes’ coach. He debuted with the Saints on January 28th, 2018 facing Watford in FA Cup, although the subsequent departure of the Argentine coach club limited his participation to a dozen clashes.

In his first season in Spain, Carrillo played 33 official matches with Leganés where he scored six goals, against Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Atlético de Madrid, a double against Real Valladolid and again against the pucelanos in the second round.

Strong striker, with a great physique thanks to its 1'91 meters of height and good movements in the rival area. Carrillo stands out for his aerial game, also enjoying good technique to associate with his attack partners. The forward does not occupy an extra-community due to his Italian nationality. The Argentine will wear number 18.
