C.D. Leganés fail to beat U.D. Ibiza (1-2)

C.D. Leganés could not produce a win against U.D. Ibiza (1-2) in their third game of the season. José Arnaiz was the lone pepinero goalscorer in a match that saw them equalise almost immediately after conceding, but the Castel and Ekain worked hard to tilt the game in the Ibizans favour after 90 minutes.

The starting XI included two changes to the team that lined up against Burgos C.F.: Jonathan Silva replaced Quintillà at left back while Sabin Merino was swapped in for Juan Muñoz up front.

Sabin and Bárcenas with the closest chances in the first half

Leganés came out stronger than ever in search of a goal, with the first opportunity coming after just three minutes to Sabin Merino thanks to Jonathan Silva, whose shot rolled wide of the far post. Shortly after, Bárcenas got his foot on the end of the cross but was unable to keep the ball low enough to find the target. Javi Pérez provided the only real goal threat in the first half for the visitors with a shot directed into the bottom corner that Riesgo leapt across to smother.

As the half went on, Luis Perea and Bárcenas channelled most of the attacking presence, with good supply from Palencia and Silva. Cifuentes had a volley deflected in the 37', but Ibiza were under the cosh for much of the half as Luis Perea came close twice again as the time ran down, but his header and low shot on the ground both disappointed. The sides reached the halftime break without a change in the score.

Castel sends Ibiza in the lead before Arnaiz reels them right back

No changes were made to the team after 45 minutes, but Ibiza got their noses in front in the 56' after Castel reacted quickly to a free ball in the area to take the lead for the visitors. Arnaiz received the ball on the left wing soon after kickoff, dribbling past the defender towards the goal to execute with a tidy left-foot finish to level the score at 1-1.

Garitano made two substitutions, bringing on Naim and Borja Garcés, who made his pepinero debut, for Bustinza and Sabin Merino. Garcés came close to celebrating his first game in blue and white with an opportunity in the 72' served up by Luis Perea, but his shot only ever found the side netting.

Ekain heads his team in front

Two more changes were made in the 75’, with Doukouré and Fede Vico coming on to freshen the midfield while Luis Perea and Bárcenas came off. However, the final blow came in the 79’, with Ekain leaping to direct the cross from his teammate past Riesgo and retake the lead. Leganés sustained their attacking pressure until the final whistle by also substituting forward Juan Muñoz on. But even Doukouré's atheltic bicycle kick was not enough to resuce a point for the pepineros after 90 minutes.

Leganés have only 1 point on the table as they prepare to face their next opponents S.D. Eibar on Saturday 4th September (16:00 CEST) at the Ipurua.
