C.D. Leganés lose to visiting Real Valladolid (0-2)

C.D. Leganés suffered defeat to Real Valladolid at the Butarque (0-2), in what was the tenth game of the LaLiga SmartBank season. Sergio León's goal in the first half and Weissman's in the second were enough to overcome a Leganés that for all their attacking effort were lacking in front of the net.

With the conclusion of the most recent round of World Cup qualifiers, both Omeruo and Shibasaki returned to Garitano's starting lineup in the places of Rodri Tarin and Cheick Doukouré last time out. Both teams began with intensity, with Javi Hernández receiving two good chances in the 7', Weissman in the 8' and Shibasaki's long range effort that went over in the 12'.

Arnaiz was behind the blanquiazules' closest run at goal, but Sergio León killed the home advantage

Luis Pérez's defensive mistake provided the clearest opening for Leganés to go on top from the feet of Jose Arnaiz, but his attempt to place the ball in the far corner frustratingly curled just wide of the far post. Rubén Pardo followed up with a low driven shot in the 21', but Roberto was alert to keep his angles safe. The pepineros dominated most through this period of play, but neither Fede Vico nor Javi Hernández could capitalise in the 23'.

It didn't take much for Valladolid to respond to the attacking pressure however, streaking down the left wing to supply the cross for Sergio León, whose header comfortably found the net. But Leganés sustained their forward movement, both spreading the play out wide through Randjelovic and Arnaiz as well as through the centre midfield thanks to Fede Vico. Omeruo's header in the 40' was the last opportunity of the half, but the scoreline remained at 0-1 as the whistle sounded.

Weissman's final nail in the coffin hammered in on the counter

Despite Arnaiz's dangerous approach to goal in the 49', Leganés seemed unable to produce an equaliser. Even for all Garitano's effort to freshen the attack with Juan Muñoz and Bárcenas or Gaku's second outside-of-the-box shot in the 69', Roberto was more than capable at clearing the goal.

With only 15 minutes to go, Doukouré and Sabin Merino were also substituted on. Doukouré launched another attempt at goal in the 80', but even after Naim joined the fray too, Leganés still trailed. In the last stretch of the game, Sabin Merino was forced to stop briefly due to a muscle injury though all five changes from the bench had already been implemented. It was here that Weissman sealed off the result by finishing off a quick counter, doubling the deficit.

Leganés remain with 9 points so far. Their next fixture is this Wednesday at 21:00 (CEST) in the Santo Domingo against A.D. Alcorcón.
