Preview: C.D. Leganés after victory as fans return to the Butarque

This Monday (22:00 CEST) Leganés will receive Burgos C.F. at the Butarque in this second matchweek of the season. The pepineros return two months after their previous official fixture at home, and will be welcomed by some 4,000 fans in the stands.

Around a year and a half has passed since the 29th February 2020. That day, C.D. Leganés and Deportivo Alavés, then coached by Asier Garitano, drew at the Butarque before 10,000 fans. That was the last day the pepinero stadium welcomed all its fans. Since then, only 1,500 supporters were able to watch the final game of last season live, and many will return to the stadium this Monday for the first time to cheer on their team from the stands. More than 4,000 season ticket holders will be present at the home opener.

With such encouragement, Leganés will try to achieve their first home win after failing to score in the league opener in San Sebastián where the chances were present, but were not converted. Ahead of Monday's clash, Asier Garitano confirmed at a press conference that Recio, Borja Garcés and Manu Garrido will be absent through injury. The latest blanquiazul signing, midfielder Fede Vico, will not be in the squad either, as he is still working his way back to full fitness.

Burgos C.F., to make their second division debut two decades later

For their part, Burgos C.F. face the second game of their return to LaLiga SmartBank twenty years since their last second division season. The Castilians achieved a historic promotion last May after beating Calahorra and Bilbao Athletic in the play-offs, and travel with high hopes after losing their first game 1-0 to Real Sporting at El Molinón despite a solid performance.

The man who guided them to promotion last year, Julián Calero, is still in charge of the team, which has its own players with second division experience such as Matos, Andy, Saúl Berjón, Pablo Valcarce, Álex Alegría and Guillermo Fernández, a striker who played for Leganés in the 2015/16 season and was a member of the squad that won the historic promotion to the top flight.

The match will be officiated by the referee Mr. Rafael Sánchez López.
