C.D. Leganés earns a point during the visit to Mestalla. Dani Parejo gave the advantage to Valencia by scoring a penalty kick. A goal by Oscar Rodriguez tied the match. Leganés had the chance to tie during the final moments.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s team started the match in Sevilla with a lot of motivation and defensive order. The first chance of the match came for Siovas, after being left alone during a corner kick crossed by Oscar Rodriguez, ending with a header by the Greek defender caught by Cillessen.
By the 17th minute, a penalty kick was given to Valencia after a foul on Rodrigo. The Valencian team took the lead after Dani Parejo converted the penalty kick.
After Valencia taking the lead, Lega started to put even more intensity and pressure to the match. Oscar Rodriguez had an amazing chance by the 24th minute via a free kick, where the Spaniard’s shot went straight to Cillessen’s post. Moments later, Lega had another clear chance after Martin Braithwaite headed a cross by Oscar, in a corner kick, but ended up going over the goal.
The referee stopped the match by the 30th minute for a water break. Moments after the water break, Oscar scored the equalizer in a play where Siovas’ shot ended up being blocked by Carrillo and served as an assist for Oscar to send the ball to the back of the net. Leganés was back in the game with Oscar’s goal. The first half ended with the cucumber squad looking for the goal that would have left them with the advantage during half time, but the Valencian defense prevented it.
The second half started with an active Leganés, aiming for the rival area but focusing on not making any defensive mistakes. Valencia enjoyed of two clear chances to take the lead, but a solid Juan Soriano prevented the ball from crossing the goal line.
Six minutes were added of extra time, during which the cucumber squad had the best chances to take a victory home by a play where Martin Braithwaite was tackled inside the area, but no penalty was given and another one where Kevin Rodrigues almost scores in a counterattack.
The cucumber squad earns the first point of the season in Mestalla and will face Athletic Club on Wednesday in Butarque at 19:00h.
