C.D. Leganés earned a crucial point against Valencia C.F. in Butarque (1-1)

C.D. Leganés tied 1-1 in Butarque against Valencia C.F. thanks to a goal in the final moments of the match by Braithwaite. Kondogbia opened the score for the chèside in the first half.

As soon as the match started, the cucumber side showed that they were going to fight the whole game for the three points as the Maroquin forward En-Nesyri’s bicicle kick aimed for the back of the net but unfortunately was blocked by the Brazilian keeper, Neto. Moments later, the chance was finally nulled by the referee, Xavier Estrada Fernandez. The first chance by Valencia came around the 10th minute with a magnificent shot by Gaya straight to Cuellar’s crossbar.

Extremely equalized first minutes of the match in correspondence to the 25th matchday of LaLiga Santander. Approximately during the 16th minute, Mikel Vesga headed a cross by Oscar Rodriguez, but unfortunately it went a little over the goal defended by the chèside. The cucumber side was easily reaching to the rival’s goal, but not with the aim we would have liked.

Kondogbia opened the score for Valencia

By the 21stminute the team from Valencia netted Cuellar’s goal with a header by Kondogbia after a free kick cross by Carlos Soler in Butarque. Even though the goal conceded, the cucumbers did not give up and reacted right away. Two minutes later, En-Nesyri had another header chance, but once again blocked by Neto.

As minutes passed, Valencia began to feel more comfortable with the possession of the ball, facing a Leganés that not even for one second thought about giving up. Braithwaite generated one more before the end of the first half after heading a cross by Nyom, but it was ineffective closing the first period with a 0-1 in favor of the chès.

Leganés never gave up towards the goal

After the half time Leganés kept on aiming for the rival’s goal. By the 49th minute, En-Nesyri sent a through ball for Braithwaite, who did not get to shoot by a little. A few minutes later, Oscar Rodriguez tried his luck with a shot from outside the box, but it ended up going over the crossbar. In the 60th minute, Rodrigo had the chance to increase the advantage for Valencia after executing a play generated by Piccini, but it went out barely hitting the post.

Mauricio Pellegrino managed his team by substituting El Zhar for the debuting Kravets. Later, Carrillo by Vesga. And finally, Juanfran by Bustinza, always targeting for the equalizer of the game.

Braithwaite tied up the game for Leganés

All the cucumber effort was paid by the 88th minute, when the Danish forward Braithwaite shot twice the goal defended by Neto following a cross by Nabil El Zhar. The first shot was blocked by Paulista, but on the second one the Danish would not forgive the Valencia side, engaging the ball with such precision that even though the keeper touched it, it was not enough to obstruct the cucumber’s payoff with a goal. Minutes later, En-Nesyri had a chance to give the cucumber supporters the three points, but the goalkeeper did not give up and obstructed the ball’s path to the net.

At the end, C.D. Leganés achieved a crucial point in Butarque Stadium on its 50th game on First Division. The cucumber team has 30 points and its 12th on the table. The team managed by Mauricio Pellegrino continue with their not losing home streak since the 4thmatchday against Villarreal, making it 10 home games without losing in LaLiga.

C.D. Leganés’ next match will be on Monday March 4th against Levante U.D. at 21:00h in Butarque Stadium.
