Asier Garitano: "We know what it takes in this division: either give your best every weekend or it'll become very difficult to win games"

The C.D. Leganés manager, Asier Garitano, appeared before a press conference following the pepineros game at the Reale Arena against Real Sociedad 'B', which marked the first matchday for the squad's 2021/22 LaLigaSmartBank campaign, and ended in a 1-0 defeat for the blanquiazules.

The coach summed up the shock of the result as such: "It was an even and tactically balanced first half, with some good moments of ball possession but with little return. In the second 45, they dominated and scored a good goal, and from there it cost us. But we finished the game in their half and generated a couple of chances. Football's about accuracy, they scored one and we didn't. We'll take the positives going forward, like the players who debuted and had a good game."

Asier believed that the difference between the teams came down to success in front of goal: "We were hungry from the beginning, but we knew that they were going to lead with a high press. We saw their preseason games where they generated a lot too. We didn't concede many chances, but we did lack that extra push after the interval. We played more of the game in their half, but we missed that clinical touch."

Looking forward to the near future, the coach feels that "bit by bit we will incorporate the players we need and it will cost us. We need to keep things moving along, even though we still need more players we have to stay competitive in this league where the games have slim margins. I don't believe we're favourites for anything, there's 15 other teams with very little to separate them. A few years ago we lost the opener against Almería and no one fancied us but we still secured promotion. In Segunda, you have to give your best every weekend or it'll become very difficult to win games. That's true for ourselves and any other club."
