C.D. Leganés coach Igor Oca appeared at a press conference on Saturday after the match between the Pepineros and Real Racing Club, corresponding to matchday 18 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Blue and Whites' coach gave his assessment of the match as follows:
Match assessment: "It was an even match in terms of chances, but the ones we created were clearer. It's a shame we couldn't convert them. We could have changed the course of the match by being more effective at the start with those two chances and Cissé's shot off the post. I'm very happy with how we contained the leaders, didn't lose face, finished with three forwards, and went for the win. That's what's expected of the team. Sometimes you can drop two points, as happened today, but that effort and the ability to bounce back is what I take away as the most positive thing".
Feeling: "There may be different opinions. We treated a team that should be like us as equals. We come from where we come from, we have goals, and we have shown that we are capable of competing against anyone and beating anyone. That we let it slip away due to a lack of efficiency... We have to keep trusting, tolerate mistakes in this sport, but the work has been very good. The point takes us a step forward, even though it's our second draw. We have to see it as positive, despite the feeling that we could have taken all three points at the home of the best team in the league."
Improving team: "It's difficult to compare, because the contexts are different in the two games. Their trajectory and consistency mean that our opponents arrive in high spirits. That's why I value this result so much and I think we're going to continue building from here. It's just one point, but the step forward is clear."
Game plan: "We'd been working on it during the week. Their long restarts, their short situations where we made it difficult for them to pass to their back line players. They haven't seen much of that, and they've only found us when we've been a little distracted. The plan helped us get closer to victory, but it didn't quite get us there.
Continuity: “I haven't invested any time. A game like this demands your full attention. I'm eager because I think the evidence of that small step forward is clear, and I feel that closeness with the club. I'm always available.”
Naim's injury: “We're optimistic. He's been dealing with some discomfort that's been limiting him, it's not the first time, but we hope it's not serious. He's had similar situations that could be managed with more time, but in a game we have to make decisions and he knows that if he's not 100% there are other teammates who can step up. That's why it's been done.”
