However, all Pepineros will always remember his first spell at Leganés, where he arrived in 2014 from Guijuelo and became one of the heroes of the club's first promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS, starring in two successful seasons with the Blue and Whites, in which he played 65 games, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists, showcasing his speed, versatility, and quality.

After his first spell at Butarque, Rubén Peña signed for Eibar to play in the top flight, where he had already made his debut years earlier with Real Valladolid. He played three seasons at Ipurua between 2016 and 2019, making nearly 100 appearances in the top flight.

His great performances earned him a move to Villarreal C.F., where he was part of the team that won the historic Europa League title in the 2020/21 season. In the following season, the Ávila-born player made his debut in the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals with Villarreal, who were only defeated by Liverpool.

Over the last three seasons, Peña has been part of C.A. Osasuna, playing in 85 official matches with the Rojillos and participating in, among others, a Copa del Rey final, the Spanish Super Cup, and UEFA Conference League matches. After finishing his time with the Rojillos, and with more than 300 professional appearances under his belt, Rubén returns to Butarque, signing until 2027.
