C.D. Leganés coach Igor Oca held a press conference following Sunday’s match between the Pepineros and U.D. Almería, part of Matchday 34 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 2-1 loss.
The Basque coach assessed the match as follows:
Defeat in stoppage time: "It’s more than bitter. After all the hard work we put in during the match, in a situation we could have resolved with a foul, a card, or even a harsher penalty, there would have been a minute and a half left in the game. To lose it on a play we could have turned around leaves you with even greater disappointment. Beyond that, we executed what we’d worked on, though with little success in the second half after regaining possession. We needed to make better decisions on clearing the ball from our zone to make better choices in transition. We deserved the draw, but we have to learn from this because it’s not the first time it’s happened, and it’s up to us”.
Goal on the counterattack: “It came off a foul. They fouled Duk; it makes sense that from a refereeing standpoint, with the crowd pressuring, in the final minutes… By not calling it, they regrouped, and we didn’t foul Lopy to defend a set-piece and end the game. It didn’t happen that way, and it gives us the chance to learn and the need to learn”.
