C.D. Leganés reached an agreement on Friday to sign 28-year-old goalkeeper Luca Zidane Fernández for one season with an option for a second. The goalkeeper joins the team after playing for Granada C.F. for the past two seasons and representing Algeria at the recent World Cup.
A product of Real Madrid’s youth academy, Luca made his first-team debut in May 2018 in a LALIGA EA SPORTS match against Villarreal. After being loaned to Racing in 2019, he signed with Rayo Vallecano a year later, helping the team earn promotion to the First Division and competing at the top level the following season.
In 2022, he signed with S.D. Eibar, becoming a regular for the club since his arrival and establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers in LALIGA HYPERMOTION. His most recent stint in the league was with Granada C.F., where he played for the past two seasons.
With nearly two hundred official matches as a professional in our league, he arrives after playing in the most recent World Cup
A regular in France’s youth national teams, Luca Zidane is a senior international for Algeria, having recently competed in the Africa Cup of Nations and the most recent World Cup, where he played in all three group stage matches for the North African team.
A goalkeeper with exceptional technical skills, quick reflexes, and outstanding footwork, Luca is now joining Ontime Butarque to continue his career, in which—despite his youth—he has already played nearly 200 professional matches. The goalkeeper will join the team this Saturday and will be introduced next Wednesday, August 12, at 1:00 p.m.
