C.D. Leganés could not score in their match of the thirty-second round of LaLiga SmartBank, losing against R.C.D. Mallorca (1-0). Raíllo scored the goal for the Balearics in the first half against a team that crashed against the post and goalkeeper Reina in the second half.
Asier Garitano started with a lineup with three changes compared to the team that drew five days earlier in Almería: Rosales came in defense in place of Bustinza as left back, Luis Perea replaced the suspended Rubén Pérez in midfield, and Róber Ibáñez replaced Borja Bastón in the attacking area.
A set piece gave R.C.D. Mallorca the lead in the first half.
The local Dani Rodríguez made the first shot of the match, well caught by Riesgo. Róber Ibáñez made the first approach after an action on the left by Rosales. The first minutes were marked by equality, with both teams exerting a strong pressure that hindered the rival's circulation. In minute 20, Rubén Pardo connected with a volley that was deflected by the head of a defender.
The home side took the lead in the 25th minute in a set piece. Salva Sevilla took a free kick from the left and Raíllo connected an impossible header for Riesgo to make it 1-0 for Mallorca. Leganés tried to react, and Palencia's right-footed shot went wide. Palencia himself, in minute 44, shot dangerously from a cross by Rosales that was caught by Reina. The score was 1-0 at halftime.
Juan Muñoz, who hit the crossbar, and Eraso, with a save from Reina in stoppage time, came close to equalizing.
After the restart, Asier Garitano made a double substitution, bringing on Kevin Bua and Juan Muñoz in place of Palencia and Rubén Pardo, and the team switched to a back four. The Blue and Whites came out wanting to take a step forward, although Dani Rodríguez had the first chance of the second half. Juan Muñoz tried in 54' with a half-chilean shot that didn't find the goal.
On the hour mark, José Arnaiz and Borja Bastón replaced Róber Ibáñez and Sabin Merino to freshen up the attack. The last change was Eraso in place of Rosales. Leganés had more of the ball than in the first half and pushed more towards the opponent's goal and, in minute 75, Borja Bastón had a good chance after a pass from Javi Hernández, but his shot was too close to the target and was caught by Reina.
In minute 80, Juan Muñoz was on the verge of equalizing, but his free kick crashed against the crossbar of Reina's goal. Leganés continued to believe despite the continuous stoppages in play, and they almost equalized in stoppage time, with a double chance by Eraso that Reina avoided with a miraculous intervention and his subsequent shot went wide.
With the final whistle, Leganés remains in fifth position with 54 points, and their next game will be this Sunday (18:15) at Butarque against C.E. Sabadell.
