C.D. Leganés draws against S.D. Ponferradina at Butarque (1-1)

C.D. Leganés drew against S.D. Ponferradina (1-1) at Butarque, in a match of the thirty-fifth round of LaLiga SmartBank. Sergio González scored for the pepineros in the first half, while Sielva, from a direct free kick in the action after Omeruo was sent off, equalized for the bercianos.

Los Pepineros started with a team with three changes compared to the starting lineup from the last match against R.C.D. Espanyol: Jonathan Silva replaced Javi Hernández at left back, Rubén Pardo came in for Shibasaki in midfield and Avilés played on the right wing in place of Róber Ibáñez.

Leganés had the first chance in the 2nd minute, in a move led by Arnaiz from the left, who combined with Avilés and the latter with Eraso, who couldn't finish in front of Caro. The next one was for Jonathan Silva in minute 14, when he finished a set piece with his right foot that went just wide.

Sergio González gave Leganés the lead on the half hour after a set piece.

Ponferradina responded in minute 27 with a combination between Valcarce and Yuri that the striker couldn't convert in front of Riesgo. In 32', Leganés took the lead in another strategic action: after several rejections in the area, Sergio González scored against Caro to make it 1-0 in what was his first goal in LaLiga and second of the season.
Leganés continued to insist, looking for the second on the flanks with the depth of Avilés on the right and Silva and Arnaiz on the left. Eraso and Rubén Pardo had two chances to make it 2-0 but could not find the net. The score was 1-0 at halftime.

Sielva, from a free kick, equalized in the action after Omeruo was sent off.

C.D. Leganés started the second half with another clear chance for C.D. Leganés after another action by Avilés that Miguel let through and Arnaiz failed to score, the ball going out grazing Caro's right post. The match was equalized and Asier Garitano made a double substitution, bringing on Brandon and Borja Bastón for Arnaiz and Miguel after a strong hit by the player from Valladolid with Pascanu.

The post prevented the 2-0 in another action of Avilés just before Ais Reig sent off Omeruo for a double yellow card after a foul on the edge of the area. In that action, Sielva converted the free kick and put the score at 1-1. Leganés tried to recover from the blow by trying to reach the opponent's area against a Ponferradina that was looking to take advantage of its numerical superiority.

The scoreboard did not move again, and Leganés has 58 points to continue in fourth place in the standings. Their next match will be this Sunday (18:15) against A.D. Alcorcón in Santo Domingo.
