C.D. Leganés will welcome Real Sporting this Sunday (18:15) at Butarque, an opponent they have only been able to beat once in their official matches. The pepinero's home ground has historically been a good stage for the Gijón side, who have won seven of their eight visits.
Leganés and Sporting met for the first time on May 16, 1999, in a match that ended in a 1-0 win for the visitors. In the following season, the pepineros would achieve their only victory against the red and white team, winning 2-1 in the antepenultimate matchday thanks to a double by Barbarín. In the following four seasons, the duels at Butarque would end with a Sporting win.
After the Pepeños' relegation to Second Division 'B' in 2004, the two teams did not meet again until the 2014/15 campaign, again in the silver category and again with an Asturian victory. The last precedent corresponds to February 2017, the only one in First Division, and also ended with a defeat for the Blue and Whites, this time by 0-2. This Sunday, Asier Garitano's men will seek to reverse the trend and take the three points again.
