C.D. Leganés qualified this Monday for the promotion play-off to LaLiga Santander for the first time in its 93-year history. The pepineros will fight to return one year later to the First Division, for which they will have to overcome two round-robin play-offs.
With four seasons in the top flight behind them between 2016 and 2020, the Blue and Whites achieved their first direct promotion in Anduva in 2015/16. In their return to LaLiga SmartBank, Asier Garitano's side will compete alongside U.D. Almería, Girona F.C. and Rayo Vallecano or Real Sporting for the third place that gives access to the First Division next season.
The first leg of the first round will take place on June 2-3 and the second leg on June 5-6. The final will take place on Sundays 13 and 20.
The pepineros can be third, fourth or fifth in the standings depending on the results of the last league matchday, in which they will face Real Zaragoza at La Romareda (21:00). In the event of a tie in the playoffs, an extra time will be played and, if at the end of the extra time the tie is still equal, the winner will be the best-ranked team in the regular league.
The first round will take place next week, with the first leg on Wednesday 2 or Thursday 3 and the second leg on Saturday 5 or Sunday 6, depending on the final positions in the standings. The final for promotion would take place on Sunday June 13 and 20.
