C.D. win the XLI edition of the Villa de Leganés against Rayo Vallecano (1-1 / 4-3)

The Pepino Dor will remain in the Butarque trophy cabinet for at least another season as the Blanquiazules overcame Rayo Vallecano in a game that was forced into a penalty shootout (4/3) after a goal apiece for the sides after regular time.

The Pepineros, proudly displaying their new home strip, initially lined up with Riesgo in goal, protected by a back four of Palencia, Tarín, Omeruo and Javí Hernández, with the centre mid pairing of Doukourè and Gaku, flanked by Sabin Merino and Naym, with Juan Munoz supporting the lone striker Diego García. The starting eleven came out strong, converting their chances after just 11 minutes thanks to incisiveness of Sabin Merino, who took advantage of a weak clearance in the box to open the scoring.

To his credit, Bebé emerged as the focal point of Rayo's goal threat as the first half rolled on, frustrated initially by an efficient Pepinero backline and assured goalkeeping from Riesgo. But on the stroke of halftime the creative midfielder floated a ball backpost to gift Isi the equaliser.

Neither team was able to impose themselves over the second 45, despite Leganés having the most clear cut chances to get ahead as the clock ran down. Omeruo's header was denied by the crossbar and Diego García's shot almost found the far side of the netting after a great spell of attacking play from the home team.

After ending 90 minutes all square the game went to a shootout, which saw the home team win 4-3 after two inspiring saves from Asier Riesgo. Rodri Tarín's penalty sealed the victory and the defender was met by the city mayor, Santiago Llorente, to receive the Pepino de Oro.
