On Sunday 2nd of March at 2pm, the Estadio Municipal Butarque will host the much awaited derby in the south of Madrid between C.D. Leganés and Getafe C.F. A historic duel between two teams located just 4 kilometres apart, in the cities of Getafe and Leganés, both in the south of Madrid.

The derby between the two clubs, known as the ‘Derbi Histórico’, has been played since the teams were founded in the regional divisions until they reached the top category of Spanish football. This is the only derby in the history of Spanish football that has taken place in all categories, making it a unique clash that has been played 69 times, with Lega winning 23 times to 25 for Getafe.

The first documented match between the two teams was played on 25th April 1948 in the Segunda Regional Ordinaria category. Since then, they have played each other on numerous occasions, with the derbies in the 80s and 90s, when both clubs coincided in Segunda División and Segunda División B, being particularly prominent.

The derby returned to prominence in the 2017-18 season, when both teams met in LaLiga for the first time in their history, after a long period without facing each others in higher categories. The first derby in Primera División was played on 8th of September of 2017.

Currently, C.D. Leganés and Getafe C.F. face each other in Primera División, where the rivalry between the two teams continues to be one of the most expected matches of the league.

This new derby will be played at 2pm at the Estadio Municipal Butarque, and will be the last confrontation between the two teams in the 2024-25 season.
