C.D. Leganés reinforces backline with Ignasi Miquel for 2025/26 season

The left-sided center back, who was already with the Pepinero club in the 2020/21 season, arrives from Levante UD, after achieving promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS, and signs for one season plus an optional one.

C.D. Leganés reached an agreement on Wednesday with 32-year-old center-back Ignasi Miquel to join the club for the next season plus an optional one.

Miquel, formed in the youth categories of F.C. Barcelona, R.C.D. Espanyol, U.E. Cornellá and Arsenal F.C., came to debut with the first team ‘gunner’ in the course 2010/11 in FA Cup match by the hand of Arsène Wenger, debuting the following year in the Premier League and Champions League. He continued his adventure in the Premier League with Leicester City and Norwich City in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons respectively.

Already in Spain, the Catalan center-back played for S.D. Ponferradina in 2015, moving to C.D. Lugo the following year. His good work earned him the jump to Primera División in the middle of the 2017/18 season, being signed by Málaga C.F. After half a year in the Costa del Sol team, he signed in the summer of 2018 for Getafe C.F. In 2019/20, the player from Corbera de Llobregat would leave on loan to Girona F.C., where he played 24 official matches and reached the final of the play-off for promotion to the highest category of Spanish soccer, losing in the last instance against Elche C.F. The following season, 2020/21, Ignasi Miquel would play for C.D. Leganés, where he would play 22 matches with the blue and white shirt.

After his departure from the pepinero team, in 2022, the S.D. Huesca would get his loan becoming a fixed of the 11. Later he would sign for Granada C.F. where he would play the next three seasons, there he would coincide with the one that now will be his coach Paco Lopez and would achieve the promotion to Primera Division. In the last winter market he would join Levante U.D., achieving a new promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS.

Miquel was international with all categories of the Spanish national team, proclaiming European champion with the U-19 in 2011 and also debuting with the U-21.

The new Pepinero center-back joins his teammates on the tour of Mexico and the USA and his official presentation will take place after the team's return to Leganés.
