C.D. Leganés' Kenneth Omeruo begins his African Cup of Nations campaign today with Nigeria, with the tournament hosted in Cameroon. The Nigerian squad open Group D against Egypt 17:00 (CET), with Omeruo marking his third AFCON tournament with the national side.
The Kaduna-born defender boasts 55 caps with the Super Eagles, having won the 2013 AFCON edition as well as participating in the last iteration of the tournament in 2019, where they reached third. Nigeria share a round robin group with Egypt, the nation with the most wins historically, Sudan (who they play on Saturday 15th at 17:00) and Guinea Bissau, their last opponent of the group stage (fixture scheduled for Wednesday 19th at 20:00 (CET).
The top two teams of each group and the four best third place nations adavance to the quarter-finals, where they battle in a single elimination round between Sunday 23rd and Tuesday 26th to determine the semi-finalists of the African Cup of Nations.
