C.D Leganés’ midfielder Óscar Rodríguez has become the team’s top scorer on first division after his goal last Friday at Palma de Mallorca. He scored his 13th goal as a pepinero on first division tying the Youssef En-Nesyri’s record.
The free kick goal he scored not only helped the team to get an important point against a direct rival but allowed him to become the team’s top scorer on first division. With thirteen goals (four on last season and nine on the current one) he ties Youssef En-Nesyri’s record who was until now the player with the most goals on the team’s history in first division. Szymanowski, Gabriel and Braithwaite are next on the list with ten goals and Guerrero with nine.
Óscar has tied two more records: he is now the player with the most goals on a single season with Leganés on first division (the same as En-Nesyri on the last season) and has eight more matches to increase his record. He is also, along with Lionel Messi the player with the most free kick goals in the tournament, with four goals (scored against Athletic Club, Celta, Real Sociedad and Real Mallorca).
“We continue fighting and will put everything to win against Granada”
The '27' left the pitch with a sweet and sour feeling: “It was a hard game, we played well and fought until the end. We know that we did everything we could and still believe that we can get our goals. Their goal at the start was difficult for us but we kept fighting. It is a shame that we did not have much time after the tie to score another one”.
Óscar talked about his amazing goal which allowed the team to tie the match: “We had to try it. I was extremely focused and wanted to score the free kick, thanks to a great shoot it was goal and the team got what they deserved. This draw helps us to continue fighting”.
The white and blue midfielder is already thinking about the next Monday clash at Butarque against Granada (22:00h): “We must give our best and look after the three points. It is a very important game and will do everything to win it”.
