C.D. Leganés visits Rayo Vallecano this Thursday (21:00) at the Estadio de Vallecas, in the first first first leg of the first play-off for promotion to LaLiga Santander. The pepineros, who finished the league in third place, will be looking for a win to ensure a good result ahead of Sunday's second leg at Butarque.
The pepineros face this match with the motivation of having strung together a streak of eight consecutive matchdays without losing, which was increased at La Romareda with 0-5 against Real Zaragoza. C.D. Leganés secured its third place in LaLiga SmartBank and now faces Rayo Vallecano for promotion to the First Division, where both will fight for victory in the first match.
This season, C.D. Leganés beat Rayo at Butarque (1-0) and drew at Vallecas (1-1). For Thursday's clash, Asier Garitano will be without the injured Bustinza, Omeruo, Lasure, Shibasaki and José Arnaiz, as well as Rosales, who is in training with the Venezuelan national team.
Rayo Vallecano, aiming for the dream of promotion
Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano qualified for the play-offs on the last matchday thanks to Real Sporting's defeat against U.D. Almería (0-2), which left the Gijón-based team with 65 points and in seventh place, two points behind the Vallecanos, who lost against Lugo in a very close match in which both needed a win to achieve their objectives (0-1).
The coach of the franjirrojos, Andoni Iraola, will not be able to count on goalkeeper Dimitrievski and full-back Advíncula for this week's two matches, both of them concentrated with their national teams for international matches with North Macedonia and Peru, respectively.
The match will be refereed by the Andalusian referee, Mr. Luis Mario Milla Alvéndiz.
