The C.D. Leganés will receive this Sunday (14:00 hours) the U.D. Almería, in a match that has always ended with positive results for the pepineran interests every time it has been played in Madrid. The five previous ones show a balance of three blue and white wins and two draws.
Leganés and Almería have always faced each other in the Second Division. The first two matches were still played at the former Municipal Luis Rodríguez de Miguel, in the first stage of the pepineran season in the silver category. The match of the 1995/96 season ended without goals (0-0), while the following season the blue and white team won by a clear 3-0 with goals from Miguel Ángel, Juanmi and Gorka.
Triumph in the last precedent with goals by Szymanowski and Mantovani
We would have to wait until the first decade of the 21st century for the next two clashes, which were already played out in Butarque. In January 2003, Leganés achieved one of their greatest victories in the Second Division by beating the Almerians 5-2, with goals by Fede Marín, Miguel Ángel, Lambea, Fede Bahón and Calandria. The following year, the points would be distributed at the end of the match as it began (0-0).
The last visit of the U.D. Almeria to Butarque corresponds to the 2015/16 campaign, which ended with the promotion of the white-blue team to the Santander League. In the match that opened the second round, Asier Garitano's team won 2-1 thanks to the goals of Szymanowski and Mantovani in the first half of the match. This Sunday will be the sixth confrontation of both in the official match.
