Rubén Albés, unveiled as new coach

C.D. Leganés presented this Tuesday Rubén Albés as the new pepinero coach for the 2026/27 season in the press room of the Ontime Butarque Stadium. The Galician manager showed himself illusioned before the new challenge that he has ahead.

The president of C.D. Leganés, Eduardo Cosín, and the football director, Andrés Pardo, were present in the act, and wanted to give the welcome to the new blue-and-white coach. Cosín wanted to begin transferring "a message of gratitude to Carlos Martínez. He helped us in a very complicated moment for the club and it is something that the club does not forget. Carlos is one of ours, Leganés is his home and he has the open doors of the club. We have transferred several proposals to him to incorporate into the club in different roles, and he has transmitted to us that he wants to continue with his course."

Eduardo Cosín: "It's a very important day for us building this project with ambition"

"It is a very important day for us building this project with ambition. We know Rubén since time ago and we thank him for his predisposition to come. From the first day he has transmitted to us his interest to work with us, and when the conviction is mutual things flow in a natural way. The agreement has closed fast and has been simple."

"He is a young coach, who wastes enthusiasm and who has built his career based on work. Brave, his teams compete, are uncomfortable and know very well what they play to, something that we wanted in this new Leganés. The most important thing was the character, and the personality of Rubén and his coaching staff are going to give us many of their values: work, sacrifice, discipline, ambition. We have to recover it and achieve that Leganés that leaves everything on the field and of which the fanbase is going to feel proud."

On his part, Andrés Pardo defined Rubén Albés as "a coach with experience, personality, energy. We have been many months getting to know each other, the competition has followed its path and we have found each other. He is a brave, aggressive coach, who wants his team to compete and it is the gene that he wants to transmit to the team."

Rubén Albés: “The club wants to be among the best, and I want the same thing, but there are a lot of good teams in the league.”

The new pepinero coach wanted to give thanks to the club "for the treatment since the first day that we contacted. This starts already, I am happy to be here. Last year we had the first contact. We were getting to know each other and a week ago we resumed that conversation to value the possibility if both parts were in agreement."

Carlos Martínez: "He gave a step forward and the club has thanked him for it. We count on our own coaching staff and people who were already in the structure and we are delighted."

What team he wants: "It is early to talk about tactical aspects. Independently of the names, the category is really difficult. One has to have fun, and for that one has to play football well. One has to be brave, and that goes in relation with the identity that Leganés has had in the best moments it has had. We have to receive ourselves to simple things and starting from there, there will be work to develop."

Objective: "The club wants to be among the best and I want the same, but there are many good ones in the category. For that we will have to make a better team than them. None of the three teams that descended last year has achieved to ascend. One has to re-illusion oneself."

Message to the fanbase: "The responsibility that the fanbase heats up almost always parts from the team. There are matches that transmit things to you and emotion you, that is our responsibility. Everyone is demanding, but when success has been achieved is when most together one is. We all want to ascend and we want to do everything possible, but one has to do it all together."

Previous season: "It is important to live in the present, but it is fundamental to learn from errors. When a season does not come out as it was wanted one has to analyze and see what errors have penalized in excess. I know things that did not work in the footballing aspect, but they have a more global perspective and we want that it does not repeat. We want to be among the best and we have that conviction that we are going to be."

Last experiences: "One would have to talk a lot to see each one of the cases. One has to live in the present, I have it clear that today is a better moment than a few months ago. Sometimes things do not come out as one wants, but here I have the conviction that they are going to come out."

Vision of the club: "The board of directors has many desires for this new project. I want it to start already. To the fanbase I have been able to palpate it little, I am desiring to play in Butarque and walk through the city. One has to listen to them."

Priorities: "We are going to try to build a team, an identity, that everywhere we go Leganés represents some footballing values and of personality. One will have to see how the market goes developing, no squad is closed. The evaluations of where we will be able to be will be made once closed the squads."

Balanced objectives: "It will always be the next match. We know that we have to be among the best and we will do everything to be it. I do not know any coach who thinks seven matchdays beyond. We will try to arrive in the best possible way to the first matchday and hopefully we can start with victory."

What cannot be lacking: "The soft ones I do not like. The player or the team that gets hit and is not capable of rising, I do not like. We have to be a team that faces with the maximum energies what happens. The soul is important in the teams."

Andrés Pardo: “We've been very self-critical. We have to generate that excitement ourselves; we shouldn't ask anything of the fans because it has to come from within.”

The act closed with the turn of questions from the communications media to the football director, Andrés Pardo:

Squad: "We are initiating the market and there will be movement. Of those players who have a contract quite a few will end up leaving and quite a few will end up arriving. We are calm and facing the market already with some situations. There will be things shortly."

Renovations: "The situation of Ignasi Miquel was already agreed, he had a clause of matches that he fulfilled and it was not announced, but it was fulfilled. We are happy with the leadership that he has shown in a season in which it has touched him at different moments to assume that role."

Pre-season: "We are working. There can be a stage outside and combine it with trainings in Madrid and around. There is already almost closed some match."

Analysis of the previous season: "We have been very self-critical since many months ago. We know what has been the degree in which we have left the fanbase and where we have committed errors. They are many factors. We have been months identifying where we have failed, and once made that reflection the 26/27 season already started a few days ago. We all start from zero and the feeling that now moves us is that of illusion. We look backward and what we want is to revert that of the past season. We have to transmit illusion, energy, that we are going to learn from errors. I would like that everything started tomorrow, we work to improve the situation and give the turn to many things."

Priorities: "There is a very clear rumbo in terms of exits, entrances and the profile of player that we have to incorporate. If we want to be a team with some characteristics we have to adapt to the profile of player that the coaching staff likes. There is going to be movement and we have clear who has to leave and who has to enter. We have several names per position and the rumbo is clear, but this is long."

Learning from the past season: "One has to go walking the path. From the initiation we all added ourselves in that everything was fine and that it was the good path. One has to respect in excess the category. There are many data that make you be very cautious and respectful with the category. We are ambitious, but one has to build from the short term and step by step. We have to take decisions before and it is easy to talk after the bull has passed. We have learned infinity of things that we are doing already in a different way."

Continuity: "When you make a bad season and the expectations were high it is normal to be conscious that doubts are generated. I have lived it within normality, but I have noted the confidence from the beginning knowing that it is a season that has been able to damage us all. This year there have entered among the first teams that the previous year were between 13th and 17th. I am very exposed, but I have lived it with normality. I have the energy at 100% to give the turn to the past season."

Illusioning the fanbase: "We want to start from zero. Football does not have memory, if some players repeat from the previous squad safely the outcome is different. They are ten months of competition. We have to generate the illusion ourselves, we must not ask anything from the fanbase because it has to come out of here. The incorporation of Rubén talks a lot about that. It is us who have to give and we hope that they are with us from the beginning."

How to give exits: "There is going to be diverse situations during the summer, some simpler and others that can encyst themselves a bit more. We have clear what situations of exits there has to be and they are going to go producing themselves."
