Raúl Fernández: Experience and reliability in goal for C.D. Leganés

C.D. Leganés reached this Tuesday an agreement with Raúl Fernández for his incorporation into the pepinero club for the upcoming season. The 38-year-old goalkeeper from Bilbao becomes the third blue-and-white signing of this summer after arriving as a free agent from Deportivo Alavés.

Formed in the youth academy of Athletic Club, Raúl Fernández made the jump to professional football after his time with Bilbao Athletic. Since then, he has developed an extensive career in clubs such as Granada C.F., C.D. Numancia, Real Racing Club de Santander, Levante U.D., U.D. Las Palmas, C.D. Mirandés, and Deportivo Alavés, accumulating a vast experience both in Primera División and in LaLiga HYPERMOTION, with a total of 245 matches between both categories.

TWO ZAMORA TROPHIES AND TWO PROMOTIONS TO THE FIRST DIVISION

Throughout his trajectory, the goalkeeper from Bilbao has been the protagonist of important collective successes, being a fundamental piece with two promotions to LALIGA EA SPORTS.

The first one was with Levante U.D. in the 2016/2017 season, and the second one with Granada C.F. in the 2022/2023 season. In both campaigns, he was awarded the Zamora Trophy as the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the championship.

In the 2024/2025 season, he was one of the key figures of C.D. Mirandés, reaching the promotion final to Primera División. This past campaign, he participated in five Copa del Rey matches with Deportivo Alavés.
