C.D. Leganés head coach Luis Carrión held a press conference following the match between the Pepineros and Real Valladolid, part of Matchday 12 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended with a score of 4-3.
The coach assessed the events of the ninety minutes as follows:
Explanation of the result: “This isn’t normal, and it’s not what we want. It’s very difficult to score goals; we scored three, but in the end we didn’t get any points—that means we did things wrong. In the first half, we mishandled two set-piece situations and a throw-in, which led to three goals—that’s avoidable, and we’ll work to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Highlights: “We started the match well, controlling the play. The goal off the corner kick was a blow because we were playing well. We managed to come back thanks to a play by Enric that ended in a cross with several deflections and resulted in a goal. We kept playing well, but another goal off a corner kick knocked the wind out of our sails. Then the third came quickly—that stretch was poor. In the second half, they dropped deeper, and we had trouble building plays. The play leading to the fourth goal is one we can handle better, in my opinion. On the positive side, we scored three goals, but we need to improve defensively, especially on set pieces.”
5 minutes: “We started the match well. We conceded the first goal from a set piece on a corner that should have been easy to defend; the second involved some screening that made it a bit harder for us to defend, but we have to do better. After the third goal, we went through a rough patch, and that made the match an uphill battle. In the second half, the team gave it their all—we’re missing a bit more fighting spirit, which we’ll work on and will surely improve.
The other day we were a pretty solid team defensively, and today we just couldn’t be that kind of team.”
Goals Conceded: “I try to look at things from when I arrived because we’re doing things differently—this match is very different from the one the other day. We defended high up the field well, but today, in two corner-kick situations, we found ourselves down 2–1. Every aspect of the game is important, including that one, and we’ll work hard to change it. Offensively, we have what it takes to score goals.”
Morata: “He’s a top-level forward; we created scoring chances, and I’m happy about his goals and Millán’s as well. That’s good for the team. We need to improve certain defensive aspects because normally, if you score three goals on the road, you win.”
