Rubén Albés: “It was an important day to show that we want to build a different kind of team”

C.D. Leganés head coach Rubén Albés held a press conference following Saturday’s match between the “Pepineros” and C.D. Eldense at Ontime Butarque Stadium, part of Matchday 3 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 1-0 victory.

The coach assessed the 90 minutes as follows:

A victory that feels good: “A Second Division victory. Eldense played well, and we didn’t play a great game, but there were aspects worth highlighting, such as our defensive organization—we conceded very little—and in the final minutes, we brought in our most attacking players from the bench to maintain that consistency and try to score.”

A closely contested match: “It was a closely contested match; a 0-0 draw would have been the expected result because there weren’t many clear-cut chances. Sometimes that’s just how it goes, but the team that brought on more offensive players ended up winning.”

Gharbi: “He’s still adjusting. He’s a very high-level player, and we’ll continue working to bring out his best.”

Sule: “He played really well. The other day in Oviedo, we intended to bring him into the game; he’s training well, and we want the bench players to decide the match. That’s when the rotation of substitutions really makes a difference. It adds more competition on offense. He played today, he might play again next time—we shouldn’t focus on his age or where he comes from, but on his performance. He’s very eager and needs to keep working hard. Today was the first step.”

Seven points out of nine: “Very happy. Those who were here last season know what they went through, and that leaves a deep mark—the suffering we endured, which we don’t want to see repeated. It was an important test in front of our fans; we’d done well on the road against tough opponents, but today was crucial for showing that we want to build a different kind of team. It’s been a good start, but this is about evolving, because everyone is going to get better.”

Morata, Montero, and the transfer window closing: “I’d like to highlight the two wingbacks who finished the game, Sancris and Dani. It’s a position they aren’t very familiar with, but they gave us that offensive edge we needed. Someone else might join us to round out the roster—or they might not.”
