Rubén Peña

Peña has had a long and distinguished career in the top tier of Spanish soccer, which has seen him play nine seasons and more than 250 official matches in the top division and in European competitions, even winning a UEFA Europa League title with Villarreal C.F. in 2021.

However, he will always be remembered by all “Pepineros” for his first stint at Leganés, where he arrived in 2014 from Guijuelo and became one of the heroes of the club’s first promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS, starring in two successful seasons as a Blue-and-White in which he played 65 matches, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists, showcasing his speed, versatility, and skill.

After his first stint at Butarque, Rubén Peña signed with Eibar to play in the top flight, where he had already made his debut years earlier with Real Valladolid. At Ipurua, he played three seasons between 2016 and 2019, racking up nearly 100 appearances at the top level.

His outstanding performances earned him a move to Villarreal C.F., where he helped the “Groguets” win the historic Europa League title in the 2020–21 season. The following season, the Ávila native made his Champions League debut, reaching the semifinals with Villarreal, which ultimately lost only to Liverpool.

In recent seasons, Peña played for C.A. Osasuna, appearing in 85 official matches with the “Rojillos” and playing in, among others, a Copa del Rey final, the Spanish Super Cup, and UEFA Conference League matches. After ending his time with the “Rojillos”—and with more than 300 professional appearances under his belt—Rubén returned to Butarque, signing a contract through 2027.
