C.D. Leganés coach Paco López appeared at a press conference on Wednesday after his team's match against C.D. Azuaga in the first round of the Copa del Rey, which ended in a 1-4 victory.
The coach assessed the match as follows:
Match summary: "In the first play, from a side free kick, they took the lead and that creates uncertainty. We knew it wasn't going to be easy despite the difference in category and that we were going to have to work hard, and the best thing about the team is that they did it with very good play. The attitude was excellent, and we are very happy for the players. Once again, everyone pushed and helped the team."
Second-half substitution: “Óscar's substitution was planned; we wanted to play with two fixed strikers to create more space. We were going to dominate, and we wanted to have two center forwards. In that sense, the team did well.”
Azuaga fans: “It says a lot about these fans and this club that they applauded our substitutions. We thank them, they have been very respectful and I wish them all the best. They have behaved in an exemplary manner, both on and off the pitch.”
Azuaga: “It was as expected. I knew they were going to make it difficult for us. Tactically, they are well prepared and gave it their all. They made us give 100%, we didn't hold anything back, and that shows Azuaga's level.”
How it serves for the future: “We're happy. It's not a question of proving yourself, because there are eleven players and five substitutions. The message is that effort benefits the team; it's a way of showing that you want to help, regardless of how many minutes you play. The most important player is the team, and today is further proof of that.”
Guirao at center back: “It was circumstantial. We didn't want to push Jorge too hard, and we wanted to have good ball movement and for Andrés Campos and Melero to play. He's a smart guy and he played a very good game.”
Next opponent: “Whoever we face. It's about continuing to grow as a team, with the desire to improve and be competitive.”
Youth players: “Very good. Djibril had a great game, and both Sule and Siame gave us what we know they can give us. We're very happy with the boys.”
