C.D. Leganés' Juvenil A team secured their place in the Copa del Rey round of 16 after beating R.C.D. Espanyol 2-4 in the first round of the most prestigious tournament in Spanish youth football.
The team led by Javier Roa defeated R.C.D. Espanyol, leader of Group 3 of the División de Honor, at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque in a match that was decided in extra time after a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.
R.C.D. Espanyol took the lead in the 10th minute with a goal from the edge of the area by Martí Rivas. Immediately after the kick-off, Iker Chaparro equalized with a shot inside the area from a pass by Noé. Before the half-hour mark, from a set piece, Espanyol took the lead again at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque with a header from Guillermo Angulo.
AARÓN ALBA FORCED EXTRA TIME
In the second half, C.D. Leganés did not give up and continued to search for the equalizer. In the 62nd minute, Pepinero striker Aarón Alba sent the ball into the back of the net with an unstoppable right-footed shot to make it 2-2. With regulation time over, the tie was decided in extra time.
AITOR USERO SCORES TWICE TO SECURE QUALIFICATION
In the thirty minutes of extra time, the Pepinero Juvenil A team stepped up to secure their place in the Copa del Rey round of 16. The tie was decided in the second half of extra time with a brace from Aitor Usero.
Now, C.D. Leganés will face C.D. Tenerife in the round of 16 on Wednesday, January 28.
