C.D. Leganés was unable to earn any points in its Matchday 7 LALIGA HYPERMOTION game against C.D. Castellón (0-2). Suero, in the first half, and Jakobsen, in the second, scored the visitors’ goals.
Rubén Albés made two changes to the Pepinera lineup from their last victory against Granada, bringing in Montero—who made his first start in place of Ignasi Miquel—and Morata, who returned to the starting eleven in place of Gharbi, who was away on national team duty.
Lega had an early chance right off the bat, in the 4th minute, following a great play by Soko, who outran his marker and played the ball to Morata, who was unable to get a first-time shot off. Castellón responded in the 9th minute with a shot by Jakobsen that Luca expertly tipped away for a corner with a great save. The match was played at a blistering pace from the start, and in the 12th minute, Luca once again parried a powerful shot by Camara for the visitors.
Suero put Castellón ahead with a chip shot in the first half
In the 24th minute, Castellón took the lead through Suero, who capitalized on a passing error by Luca to lob him from distance and make it 0-1 on the scoreboard. Lega tried to recover from the blow, and in the 28th minute, Naim tried his luck on a direct free kick, but the visiting defense blocked his shot. Zico, following the ensuing corner kick, grazed the right post of Matthys’s goal.
In the 33rd minute, Soko headed a cross from Kechta on the left, but Matthys parried it away for a corner. Lega sought the equalizer before halftime, while Castellón looked to slow the pace and take the heat out of the game. Luca came to the rescue again in the 42nd minute to deny Camara a goal following a solo run by the visiting forward—the last dangerous play of the first half. The visitors held a narrow lead heading into halftime.
Jakobsen scored the second goal right at the start of the second half, and Matthys saved a penalty kick by Millán in the closing minutes
The second half began with no substitutions, and Castellón scored their second goal right at the start of the second half through Jakobsen, who beat Luca with a solo effort to make it 0-2. Soko had a chance in the 53rd minute, attempting a chip shot after a good pass from Sancris, but his shot sailed just over the crossbar. In the 55th minute, Rubén Albés made his first substitutions, bringing on Dani Rodríguez and Suleiman for Sancris and Zico to add more presence up front.
Morata came close to cutting the deficit in the 65th minute, shortly before Pulido and Unax replaced Marvel and Soko for the blue-and-whites. In the closing minutes, Millán replaced Morata, and in the 80th minute, Sule grazed the post with a left-footed shot. In the 82nd minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Lega following a clash between Mellot and Unax, but Matthys saved Álex Millán’s shot, preventing Lega from narrowing the gap.
Leganés came up short this time—they fought until the very end but suffered their first home loss against a Castellón side that remains undefeated at the top of the standings. The “Pepineros” remain on 11 points in the standings and will play their next match on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) at the JP Financial Stadium against Cádiz C.F.
