C.D. Leganés' coach, Asier Garitano, appeared at a telematic press conference at the end of the match played by the pepineros at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos against U.D. Almería, which ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to a last-gasp goal by Juan Muñoz.
The coach took stock of this intense match: "The match was conditioned by the decisions of the VAR. After 15 minutes we received a red card in a very demanding match against a great opponent that conditions you. Even so, we were able to suffer a lot despite the fact that it would have been normal for us to lose. The last play also conditioned the result because they interpreted it as an elbow. When you see the photos they look like one thing, if you see only the images they may look like one thing, but they are complicated situations that will give us something to talk about. When a rival like Almería has the game won and receives that play, I put myself in their place and it feels very bad. The point is good for us because of the points and the goalaverage," he analyzed.
"We did well, we suffered and we were lucky enough to score".
"We continue in the same line of trying to shorten the best. Today we had an option as it was a direct duel, but we soon saw that it was very complicated for us. We got a point, we beat them on goalaverage and we'll come out of here reinforced in that aspect. As for Riesgo, I understand it normally in terms of the decision making I have in this position. He has been good, both Asier and Pichu", he commented.
Asier explains how he changed the game plan on the fly: "You never expect such a quick dismissal. We intended to press them high but we saw that they had a chance in the first few minutes. We knew they were going to generate and we wanted to generate too, but with one less player it's harder. We brought on Sabin and two lines of four, but it was difficult for us to get through. In the second half, we changed to have more presence, but fatigue is wearing you down. We did well, we suffered and we were lucky enough to score. We need to keep improving and we'll see in May if we have a small chance.
"The mentality is to continue to cut down the best".
Asked about Juan Muñoz, the coach from Bergara commented that "he has had some strange months. It seemed that he was going to leave the club at the end of January, he stayed and I don't know if his head was very well. He can be an important player for us, who gives us balance, and it will be good for him that he has played and the daring to take the penalty. I hope he continues to show it in training because he has already seen that the coach is capable of putting him in".
Finally, he sent a message to the fans: "The mentality is to keep trimming the best, and that will help us to get the 'play-off'. We will see where we are at the beginning of May and hopefully we can have a chance. We are Leganés, we will fight and we will suffer. We had a big points disadvantage with those at the top and we are going to try until the end", he concluded.
