C.D. Leganés beat A.D. Alcorcón (1-2) in Santo Domingo, in the thirty-sixth match of LaLiga SmartBank. Shibasaki and José Arnaiz scored for the pepineros, who came back from Nwakali's initial goal for Alcorcón after a more than dubious penalty.
From the start, Asier Garitano opted for a lineup with four changes compared to the team that started the previous match against S.D. Ponferradina: Sergi Palencia came in for the suspended Tarín at right back, Javi Hernández replaced the also suspended Omeruo in the center of defense, Gaku Shibasaki replaced Rubén Pardo in midfield, and Borja Bastón came in as striker in place of Miguel de la Fuente.
A non-existent penalty validated by the VAR allowed the home side to take the lead.
There had been no noteworthy action when referee Ávalos Barrera flagged as a penalty a fall by Xisco against Riesgo in the 8th minute when the Pepinero goalkeeper cleanly kicked the ball away. The VAR did not correct the decision, and Nwakali converted the penalty to make the score 1-0.
C.D. Leganés tried to recover from such an early blow, but could not find the way to the home goal. Arnaiz and Avilés tried from the wings, although their actions did not end in shots on Dani Jiménez. Jonathan Silva had the clearest chance for the Pepineros in minute 35, in a run by Avilés, whose cross the Argentine full-back couldn't manage to get on the ball.
Shibasaki equalized before the break and Arnaiz completed the comeback with a great goal.
Just before the break, Leganés equalized. Borja received from the back and unloaded for Avilés, who put a sensational pass into the area for Gaku Shibasaki, who headed the ball into the back of the net. It was the Japanese midfielder's second goal of the season. Avilés himself, before the interval, had a right-footed shot that crashed into the side netting. The score was 1-1 at halftime.
The second half began with the Blue and Whites trying to hurt Alcorcón, who defended with intensity. On the hour mark, Eraso had a header from a cross by Avilés that he failed to direct. And, in the next action, Shibasaki found Arnaiz, who entered the area and unleashed a left-footed shot to the far corner impossible for Dani Jiménez. It was the sixth goal of the '10' so far this season and the momentary 1-2.
Lega knew how to suffer and took three very valuable points
The home team tried to react by introducing a quadruple substitution in the 70th minute, adding more attacking intensity. Asier Garitano responded by bringing on Rubén Pardo and Juan Muñoz for Eraso and Avilés with cramps. Later, Rosales and Sabin Merino came on for strikers Shibasaki and Arnaiz, while Luis Perea replaced Borja Bastón in stoppage time.
Sabin Merino had the chance to finish the game in the final stretch in a one-on-one from a corner, but he was unable to convert against Dani Jiménez. Lega knew how to suffer in the final minutes, getting three valuable points that put them on 61. The next match of the pepineros will be next Sunday (18:15) against Real Sporting in Butarque.
