C.D. Leganés will travel this Monday to Gijón in search of his first victory in an official match at El Molinón - Enrique Castro "Quini". So far, the pepineros have played eight matches at the Gijón stadium, with a balance of five draws and three defeats.
The first official match between Sporting and Leganés was in the 1998/99 season, and ended in a goalless tie. In the following season, the locals won by a clear 3-0. In the 2000/01 season, the pepineros rescued a point by equalizing (2-2) with goals by Macanás and Fede Marín, and the following year they did the same, this time one goal away, with Sergio Gámiz's goal.
The pepineros didn't get a win in their last visit, the only one in the First Division
In the last two years of the white-blues in the silver category before the 2004 relegation, the two visits to El Molinón ended in a draw: in 2003, with a goal by Pablo Villa, and in 2004, with a goal by Calandria.
It would take ten years for Leganés to return to Gijón. Asier Garitano's team was ahead in 2014 with a goal by Diego Aguirre, but the locals came back in the final minutes and won 2-1. The score was the same as in the last visit, the only one in the First Division, in 2016, when the pepineros could only close the gap thanks to Diego Rico's goal, in what would be their first defeat in the elite.
