C.D. Leganés reached an agreement on Thursday with the 33 year old right-back, Rubén Peña Jiménez, to join Pepinero's club for the next two seasons. The player from Ávila, who already wore the Blue and Whites' shirt between 2014 and 2016, returns to Butarque after playing the last three seasons at C.A. Osasuna.
Peña returns to Leganés after an extensive professional career in the elite of Spanish football, which has led him to play nine seasons and more than 250 official matches in the top flight and in European competitions, even achieving a UEFA Europa League title with the Villarreal C.F. shirt in 2021.
However, in the memory of all the Pepineros will always be his first stage in Leganés, where he arrived in 2014 from Guijuelo and became one of the heroes of the first promotion of the club to LALIGA EA SPORTS, starring in two successful seasons as blanquiazul in which he played 65 games scoring ten goals and distributing eight assists, displaying his speed, versatility and quality.
His great performances earned him the jump to Villarreal C.F., being part of the groguet team in the achievement of the historic title of the Europa League in the course 2020/21. In the following season, the player from Avila was able to make his debut in the Champions League, reaching no less than the semifinals with the Villarreal team, which only lost to Liverpool.
In the last three seasons, Peña has been part of C.A. Osasuna, participating in 85 official matches with the “rojillos” and playing, among others, a final of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup or UEFA Conference League matches. After finishing his time as a rojillo, and with more than three hundred professional titles behind him, Rubén returns to Butarque, signing until 2027.
His presentation press conference will take place this Friday, June 13 at 1:00 pm at the Butarque Sports Facility.
