C.D. Leganés reached an agreement this Thursday with the Guinean international midfielder Amadou Diawara, 28 years old, for his incorporation into the club for the next two seasons, with an option for a third.
The African midfielder has extensive international experience and also in LALIGA HYPERMOTION following his stint with C.D. Eldense. Born in Conakry and trained in local clubs such as Syli Authentic and FC Sequence, he made the leap to European football in 2014 by joining San Marino Club in Italy's Serie C. His youth and skills caught the attention of several top-tier clubs, leading to his signing with Bologna in the summer of 2015. Just a year later, Napoli secured his services, and he debuted in the Champions League at just nineteen years old.
Seven seasons in Serie 'A', experience in the Champions League and Europa League, and Conference champion with Roma
With the Neapolitan team, he played three seasons, participating in European competitions in all of them and playing a total of 74 matches wearing the Napoli jersey. In the summer of 2019, after three years in Naples, Diawara signed with another Serie A giant, Roma. With the 'giallorossi,' he participated in 58 official matches during his first two seasons, reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League. In his final year with Roma, under coach José Mourinho, he won the UEFA Conference League title.
In 2022, the Guinean began a new chapter with Belgian side Anderlecht, where he stayed for two and a half seasons. Last season, after leaving Belgium, he played the final part of the campaign with C.D. Eldense, scoring two goals in the twelve matches he played with the Alicante-based team after joining in March.
Three Africa Cups and an Olympic Games with Guinea at 28 years old
At the national team level, Diawara has been a regular for Guinea in recent years since his debut with the senior team in 2018, participating in three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A midfielder with great physical presence and excellent ball control, Diawara now arrives at Butarque to begin a new chapter in the prime of his career, aiming to help Leganés in the upcoming 2025/26 season. The Guinean will wear the number 24 and will join training with his new teammates next Monday.
