Jon Ander Serantes will return to the Estadio Municipal Butarque this Sunday. The Basque goalkeeper will return to what was his home for four and a half seasons, but this time to face C.D. Leganés. The goalkeeper from Barakaldo has been defending the goal of C.D. Tenerife for less than a month.
It will be a special match for Serantes and those who shared a locker room with him. Jon arrived at C.D. Leganés on September 1, 2014, when the pepineros began their return to the Second Division after ten years in Segunda 'B'. He did so on loan from C.D. Lugo, where he never played in an official match, to share the goal with Queco Piña and Dani Barrio.
Debut in Anduva and 81 official matches as pepinero
His first game as pepinero, and his debut in the silver category, would be in November in Anduva, a scenario with great significance for him and for the whole C.D. Leganés. He became a starter and, in the following season, he played in all 42 LaLiga matches, being one of the heroes of the historic promotion of the club to the First Division for the first time in its history, with key saves such as the penalty in Oviedo in the penultimate matchday. Serantes was making his debut in the elite at the same time as the club, and his first few games were so good that they led to him winning the trophy for the best player in LaLiga in August 2016. However, a fateful matchday 13 in Cornellá-El Prat ended with a serious knee injury that would keep him a year and a half away from the pitch. His reappearance would come in the last match of the 2017/18 season, against Real Betis in Butarque, in the farewell of Asier Garitano and Martín Mantovani. No one knew it at the time, but that was also Serantes' last official match in the Pepinera shirt. He remained in the squad for the 2018/19 season, but on January 4, 2019, he put an end to his time at the club to leave for Avispa Fukuoka in the Japanese second division. Jon played 81 matches with the Blue and Whites' jersey, the one he will face this Sunday in his third match as a chicharrero.
