The striker made his first official appearance as a Leganés signing this Monday. The forward, on loan from Real Sociedad, who was already included in last game's squad against U.D. Ibiza, looks forward to this new era at the Butarque.
C.D. Leganés sporting director, Txema Indias, opened the press conference welcoming Bautista: "We're grateful for Jon's decision to come to Leganés and we're delighted to welcome him. He's developed a lot in the academy at Real Sociedad, he's been in the first division and we believe Leganés is a place he can grow and come back to the top flight even better than before. Our coach feels very comfortable working with him and knows the kind of performance we can expect from a player of his calibre".
"Everyone knows Leganés is a big club that has acheived a lot in the past few years"
Bautista expressed his happiness to arrive at Leganés: "I'm very happy to have the chance to come to a club like Leganés. The negotiations were very advanced, but Carlos Fernández's injury put them on hold for a while. I'm delighted to come here so that I can grow professionally, and I'm ambitious about doing something big at Leganés".
The striker, hailing from Mahón, had plenty of praise for his new club: "Everyone knows Leganés is a big club that has acheived a lot in the past few years. My being here is owed at least in part to Asier, he contacted me and I didn't think twice. I got to know him when he was at Real, I played a lot of minutes under him and he trusted me. There were a lot of good reasons to come here".
"I consider myself a hardworking player and I'm keen to play well"
Bautista commented that "there are great players here, I don't come to be a start by any means. I consider myself a hardworking player and I'm keen to do well and, if it's a good campaign, also score plenty of goals. LaLiga SmartBank is a tough league with strong teams and you can't trust anyone.
It's the start of the season, there are new players still transitioning and adapting. We'll take it bit by bit, you always need ambition to win each game you play. We've done well in some respects, but we'll just have to improve in the areas where we haven't done so well".
