C.D. Leganés player Kevin Bua became last Sunday in Montilivi the fourth player in the club's history to score a brace coming off the bench in a LaLiga SmartBank match. Only three players had achieved it so far in the team's fourteen seasons in the silver category.
Bua came on in the 69th minute, and had time to score the two goals that gave Asier Garitano's side the win against Girona F.C. in the 75th and 92nd minutes. Something, coming off the bench and scoring a brace, that only Catanha, Omar Ramos and Rubén Peña had achieved in the Second Division with the pepineran shirt.
Catanha, Omar Ramos and Rubén Peña, the only ones to have achieved this feat
The Spanish-Brazilian striker was the first to do it, on March 15, 1998 in a match against Sevilla F.C. at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Catanha, a substitute that day, came on in the 66th minute and scored two goals in the 86th and 88th minutes, which, however, did not help Pedro Braojos' team to score, as they finally lost 3-2 against Sevilla.
It would have to wait until the 2015/16 season to happen again, and on two occasions. Omar Ramos did it in Córdoba on January 30, 2016, in a match to remember for the pepinera fans: the Canary Islander came on in the 69th minute, with 2-1 on the scoreboard and the team with ten men, and scored two goals to give the team the victory in an epic comeback: in 84', on penalty, and in 86' with a shot from almost midfield that gave the victory to C.D. Leganés.
The last player to score a brace coming off the bench that same season was Rubén Peña. The current Villarreal C.F. player did so on 23 April 2016 at Butarque against S.D. Ponferradina, in a 3-0 win for Pepinero. The player from Ávila came on in the 67th minute and sealed the victory with two goals in the 74th minute and 89th minute.
