Mehdi Nafti: "It's a significant result and we're incredibly grateful to the fans. They're three very important points"

C.D. Leganés manager, Mehdi Nafti, spoke in a press conference following the pepinero derby victory over A.D. Alcorcón at the Butarque, which finished 1-0. "We knew the game was going to be complicated due to our anxiety on our part, the opponent's desperation and our recent home performances. We knew the game would be as such, that we perfectly well could lose, but the game had to give us something in return and every once in a while work for Leganés. It's more the feeling of relief than happiness because these were three very important points".

Nafti took the time to discuss the fan interaction during the match. "We arrived feeling quite sensitive to what the atmosphere might be, especially after the last defeat and a strange week, and I have to tip my cap to them because a lot of what won that match came from the push our fans gave us. We're incredibly grateful and it pays off to keep working because they're so solid; I'm very happy for them and for my players".

Looking ahead to the upcoming games, "there are things we need to improve; we looked capable of putting away four goals but we also kept a clean sheet. There's great significance in this victory, but we'll only say the glass is half full because it's a great relief for us. It's a contested division, we will need to build momentum and we don't want to be under the cosh as much. But it's what it will take, so now is the exact time to step up, knuckle down and stay humble and competitive".
